Robert Pepper OBE

Artistic Director

Robert studied conducting with George Hurst and Arthur Davison and has worked extensively with professional, amateur and youth ensembles. He particularly enjoys coaching and performing with young orchestras and has previoulsy been Director of Music of the English Schools’ Orchestra from its inception, more than 25 years ago, until his retirement in 2022.

Robert has performed concertos with a number of distinguished soloists including John Lill, Evelyn Glennie, Julian Lloyd Webber, Guy Johnston, Alison Balsam and Tom Poster. He has broadcast on BBC Radio and televisions and led Educational workshops with Nicola Benedetti.

Robert directs the English Young Artists’ Sinfonia, a professional Chamber Orchestra consisting largely of former ESO members and is also Artistic Consultant to the Music in Secondary Schools’ Trust and Conductor of the Enfield Youth Orchestra. He has held posts as Hertfordshire County Advisor for Music and Associate Head at Dame Alice Owen’s School.
